Moving the shop around (again)!

A little treat for the workers! :)

Painting a traditional porcelain tile sign for Refugio de Baco

We designed the logo for Refugio de Baco in Calheta, Madeira. It's going to be a traditional wine bar with a modern twist so we decided that a porcelain tile sign would look great.

We bought plain white tiles and blue porcelain paint and got to work!
Start paiting!

3rd coat of paint

Painting the border

The sign needs to be in the over for 35 minutes to become weather resistant!
I will hopefully post a picture of the finished sign soon and another one of it on the wall!

Hope Mum and Paulo like it :)

Meet Klaus, the 50's german plant stand

This was a slightly merry purchase after a very hard working day in the shop.

I originally made an offer on one that had a "C" for Carla... and when accepted unexpectedly I decided to pay the extra and buy Klaus instead.

We love him. He has the best selection of formica tops in a variety of lively colours and has the biggest smile which makes me happy every time I look at him! Probably the most happy piece of furniture I love

Er ist wunderbar! :)

Cute 50's side cabinet

This was another gift by a close friend who moved house. A lovely little piece of furniture. Has a nice bright red formica top with atomic pattern and original dansette legs. Cute little cabinet, useful for bits and bobs!

1950's Larder Project

We bought this 1950's larder a couple of years back and it needed full refurbishment.

It had been painted yellow and white and was very rough around the edges. We decided to sand it all down and re-paint it. When we went through the layers of paint we found that the original paint colour was baby blue so we had the paint mixed to match it as closely as possible.

I love this cabinet, it really brightens up the kitchen and is great for storage.

1950's Dansette Coffee table restoration/upcyle

I was given this coffee table by a friend who was moving country!

It used to have a black and gold geometric pattern which wasn't to our taste so we deciced to strip off the paint and replace with a handpainted pinstripe design.

We removed the glass top and used paint stripper to remove the old design. Once the glass was clear we pinstripped it by hand.

On the wooden base we used red gloss paint and sprinkled red glitter to create a red flake effect.

It is now a center piece in our living room and I think that what we did to it still reflects the style of the table, but a little  bit more Rock'n'Roll!

Ahoy HMS Tiki! Our 50's Cruiser Cocktail bar

Here's our 1950's / early 60's cruiser bar, HMS Tiki.

Bought originally on Ebay for £50, it was missing the original legs and a piece of trim. We then bought a second cruiser to add to our armada which lived in our shop for a year, we then decided to sell on and kept the legs and trim to make one complete original bar with all features - anchor, original light switch, towel ring, legs and plastic trim. (Sold the second Cruiser for £250! Woop!)

It's still our favourite piece of furniture, completely over the top, and we love it!

HMS Tiki is filled with navy grog and small portion of our tiki mug collection. We're very lucky that it is in mint condition and now has all the original features.

Shake it like a maraca!
